Dymchurch Sea Defences

During 2010 – 2011 Coussens have been involved in a sea defence project. Coussens involvement has been to unload in excess of 40,000 tonnes of precast concrete from ships birthed at Rye harbour, each holding loads of 2,200 tonnes. Each of these loads were discharged by crane onto Coussens lorries and discharged again to a storage area supplied by Coussens within one day.

As the precast sections were required on site for laying, Coussens supplied a fleet of 14 articulated lorries with rear steer trailers, complete with angled transport frames designed and fabricated by Coussens. On site Coussens supplied two four wheel drive swivel seat Ro Ro shunter units to reverse the trailers, along a promenade, up to two kilometres to their final unload position.
